Menopause and Chinese Herbal Medicine

AstragalusIn ancient times, before estrogen, progesterone and other hormones were identified, hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes and even migraines associated with menopause were seen in accordance to the principals of Yin and Yang.  Even today, when we know about hormonal cycles and waning estrogen, these principles of Yin and Yang still apply, especially in the realms of herbal medicine.

Because herbal medicine strives to return balance to the body, menopause and peri-menopause can be seen as a time where diminishing Yin (moisture, cooling, blood) is unable to counter-balance a preponderance of Yang (heat, rising energy, dryness).  Symptoms of hot flashes, sweats and dryness result.  To restore this balance, one must boost Yin and sedate Yang to deal with and bring about balance the imbalances associated with menopause.

Interestingly, some of the herbs used have hormonal affects. For instance, Chinese yam root, dioscorea shan yao, has been used for centuries as a tonic for women in their menopausal years.  It turns out science has shown that it contains phytoestrogens; yams deliver some of the same benefits as the body's own, naturally-produced estrogen.

Our product, Meno-Pause, is formulated in accordance of the Chinese medicine principles of Yin and Yang.

If the body has too much Yang energy (heat, rising energy) and not enough Yin energy (moisture, coolness, blood) an imbalance will occur where diminishing Yin can not counter-balance a preponderance of Yang.

Menopause is a time of diminishing Yin (less blood to give each month, dryness) and therefore a preponderance of Yang, thus the heat symptoms of hot flashes, sweats, etc. Meno-Pause helps balance the body by increasing and nourishing Yin while sedating and cooling Yang.

Meno-Pause is best used for several months to achieve the best results.
